The Hutchinson Animal Shelter

The Hutchinson Animal Shelter opened January 2, 2006.  Since then, we have impounded over 9000 pets.  We have adopted out over 900 dogs and over 350 cats.  Our euthanasia rate is slowly decreasing; 2006 it was 51% and in 2007 49%.  Animals transferred to rescues thus far total over 1,300. Cause for Paws and the shelter are working together to continue to lower the euthanasia rate of Reno County pets.

Cat Litter (cheap clay litter), Dog Treats (any kind; biscuits, chewies, etc), Rawhide Bones, Peanut Butter, Kongs (to fill with peanut butter, Heavy Duty Dog Toys (not stuffed animals), Dog Beds (see www.kuranda.com for ordering information), Pop Fats (for litter boxes), Paper Towels, Carriers &/or Crates, Shoe Boxes (for cat beds), Medium and Large Pet Carriers.

Hutchinson Correctional Facility – for your willingness to help in any way you can and the inmates for their donations through fundraisers and work details. The inmates also bag the food each week for the Meals on Wheels program.

Higgins Mini-Storage – for your generosity in letting us store our stuff.

Masterson Family Mid America Markets – for allowing the shelter to bring adoptable pets to the Flea Market the first Sunday of each month.

R-B Drive In, 201 East Ave A – offers doggie bags with a hamburger for your dog. The proceeds go to the shelter. Stop in a get your beloved pet a special treat!

The City of Hutchinson – for your guidance and support.

Orschelns Farm and Home – for inviting the shelter to bring adoptable pets to visit with the public on the 3^rd Saturday of each month. Also, for allowing the public to bring their pets to have pictures taken with Santa, donation box for items for the shelter and broken bags of dog food for the Meals on Wheels program.

Tammy Stanfill – for posting pictures of our adoptable animals on an LED electronic sign in Pratt. A new sign will be installed in Hutchinson with shelter information.

Charles Wheeler Photography – for donating a certificate for a free 5x7 photo for every adopted pet with 10% of any other purchases going to the shelter.

Pampered Paws – for donating a certificate for one night free lodging at Pampered Paws for every adoption.

Wal-Mart- for donating broken bags of dog food for the Meals on Wheels program.

The Hutchinson Mall – donates a store front for our adoptable pets all years round and the month preceding Salty Dawg Festival their generosity allows us to highlight the Festival.
